Ben Perry Shields, Jr.

Ben Perry Shields, Jr. passed away on November 5, 2022, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN following treatment for a brain bleed.

Ben was born on April 19, 1948, to the late Ben Perry Shields, Sr. and Helen Maxine (Ene) Henion Shields. He was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy, DePauw University, and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. After graduation, he began his career in the investment business at a small securities firm in Nashville. In the early 1980s, he and his business partners formed a real estate syndication firm, The Equity Group, Inc., and a property management firm, Parthenon Properties, Inc. These business partnerships and friendships thrived over 40 years. In 1998, his family remembers the long days and nights he spent co-founding a securities firm, Crown Capital Securities, with partners and friends. Treasured friendships grew from that business, too.

An avid skier, Ben met his wife of 44 years, Barbara, at a snow ski club meeting many years ago. Together they enjoyed traveling, spending time at Center Hill Lake, and entertaining friends and family at home. He loved people, real estate, pheasant hunting, cars, gadgets, and telling stories. He was a good husband, a proud father, and a loyal friend.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Banks Shields, daughter, Ashley Shields, and sister, Shelley Shields. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-law, David and Nancy Banks and Roger and Betty Banks, as well as many nieces, a nephew, their spouses, and children.

Visitation with the family will begin on Friday, November 11, 2022, from 5-7 PM and on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 10 AM, immediately preceding the memorial service at 11 AM. All services will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN, 37215. A private burial will take place prior to Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
