Ben Franklin Hartman, age 83, of Bon Aqua, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, music, and a family he loved above all else.

Ben was a man who found joy in the simple things in life. He loved to sing and was a talented musician who even had a band of his own. Music was an important part of Ben’s life, and at one point his talent presented him with the opportunity for a music deal in England. But for Ben, there was never a question about what mattered most. He turned down the opportunity rather than leave his wife and children behind. His family always came first, and that decision spoke volumes about the kind of husband and father he was.

When he wasn’t singing, Ben enjoyed being outdoors. He loved hunting, especially spending time with his coon hounds, and he had a special appreciation for horses and mules. He also enjoyed gardening and working the land with his horses and mules, carrying on a way of life that brought him great satisfaction.

Above everything else, Ben was a family man. He loved his wife, his children, and the generations that followed them. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as “Pawpaw,” a name he wore proudly. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and Pawpaw loved them all.

Ben was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Ann Hartman; his parents, Maudie Fisher and Roscoe Hartman; his sisters, Shirley Downing and Carolyn Shannon; and his brother, Bobby Hartman.

He is survived by his children, Ben E. Hartman, Rita Mangrum (Tony), Tim Hartman, and Brenda G. Dodd (Earl); many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended relatives and friends.

Ben will be remembered for the songs he sang, the land he worked, the animals he loved, and the stories and memories he leaves behind. But more than anything, he will be remembered as a man who knew what mattered most. Given the chance to chase a dream far from home, Ben chose his family and throughout his life, he continued choosing them.

His music may have filled many rooms, but his greatest legacy will always be the family that filled his heart.
