Barbara Long passed away on December 9, 2023, in Dickson, TN. She was born on January 26, 1941, in Boston, MA.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, John Long, Sr., daughters, Laura Long, Deonna Long; parents, Earl and Annette Nezery.

Survivors include son, John Long, Jr.; grandchildren, Hannah Long, Luke Boren, Kelly Boren, Jace Glass, Emily Hardcastle; sisters, Carol and Joane, and numerous friends and loved ones.

Barbara's professional journey led her to St. Thomas Hospital, where she contributed to the fight against cancer as the Director of the Cancer Center. Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment positively impacted countless lives. Barbara's dedication to her career earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and patients alike.

Throughout her life, Barbara remained passionate about learning. She graduated from Gulf High School in New Port Richey, Florida, where she laid the foundation for her successful career in healthcare. Her education provided her with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a significant difference in the lives of those battling cancer.

Beyond her professional achievements, Barbara had a wide range of diverse interests that brought joy to her life. She found solace in fishing and loved spending time on the boat at the lake. Barbara's fondness for swimming allowed her to embrace tranquility amidst nature's beauty. Additionally, she possessed an extraordinary talent as a master gardener with a green thumb. Her expertise allowed her to nurture beautiful flowers and grow vegetables. As a football fan, Barbara passionately supported both the Tennessee Titans and the Florida Buccaneers.

Although we mourn Barbara's passing profoundly, we find solace in the memories she has left behind. Her warmth, kindness, and unfaltering love will continue to inspire and guide us through life's challenges.

A visitation in memory of Barbara will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9:00am to 10:00am with a Celebration of Life starting at 10:00am all at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.


Barbara Long's life was marked by love, compassion, and dedication. She made an indelible impact on all those fortunate enough to have known her. As we say our final goodbyes to this exceptional woman, let us remember her with gratitude for the light she brought into our lives.
