Beloved sister, mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother, Barbara Jean Hughes, entered Heaven on January 13th, 2022, at the age of 74. Preceded in death by her loving parents, William Raymond and Helen Gray Johnson. Survived by devoted and adoring husband - Thomas R. Hughes, Jr, wonderful sons- Robert Thomas and Michael Wayne Hughes, and her caring daughter Stephanie Lynn Woodard (Hughes).
Barbara was adored by many, including her many grandchildren – Stephen Spenser Hughes, Ashley Heather Hughes, William Dale Hughes, Brandon Joseph Hughes, Michael Riley Hughes, Christian Elishah Hughes, Zachary Issac Hughes, Donovan Grey Woodard, and great grandchildren Isaiah Robert Hughes and Jayden Dale Hughes.
Barbara was born and raised in Nashville, TN. She was part of a large family and had close ties to her brothers and sisters. She was preceded by Ronald Johnson, Shirley Patton, and Jimmy Johnson. Survived by Lawrence Johnson, Carolyn Huffman, Linda Devine, Mary Ann Nash, and Joyce Riehs.
Barbara was the most incredible person, mother, sister, and daughter one could ever know. She was honest, caring, witty, and smart. She was a great southern cook known for her magnificent cornbread and decadent banana pudding. She was a lover of hot peppers and beautiful flowers. Also, a lover of birds and all animals, big and small. She loved crocheting and knitting and watching a good scary movie. She loved dancing while cleaning and listening to Elvis Presley and Alan Jackson.
Her life ended too soon, but we celebrate Barbara, the love she gave and the compassion she showed. A visitation to remember Barbara’s journey will occur on Thursday, January 20,2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of life preceding in the Cross of Life at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home.
The family asks that all guests please wear a mask, and if you provide food that it be individually wrapped out of respect of COVID 19.
