Thereafter, Bill moved to Chicago, Illinois and was an active broker at the Chicago Board of Trade for over 20 years.

In 1988, Bill, Mary, Sarah and Buck lived in Helena, Montana from 1988 through 1992, where they enjoyed the vast beauty of Montana, riding horses through National Forest Service trails, catch and release trout fishing, and wildlife watching. Bill practiced class action litigation, primarily in the environmental sector throughout this time. Bill worked closely on this litigation with attorney David McCrea; his lifelong friend. In 1992, Bill and his family moved to Tennessee.

Bill resided in Brentwood in Laurelwood with his beloved dog, Nate, who was named after Nashville Tennessee. Bill worked with X, in Winterpark, Florida. Bill enjoyed daily walks in the Deerwood Arboretum with Nate, and feeding, often by hand, the myriad of birds from his back deck.
