Robert D. Freeman, Jr.

November 22, 1973 – May 9, 2022

Robert “Bobby” D. Freeman, Jr. left his earthly family on May 9, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Freeman, Sr., his sister Terri Freeman Baker and stepfather Robert E. Galya.  Bobby is survived by his wife, Maria Moncrief Freeman, son Brett Freeman and daughter Emmy Freeman of Nashville, Tennessee.  He is also survived by his mother, Shirley Ann Galya-Ferebee (Jim) of Dickson Tennessee and his sister, Katherine McKenzie (Eric) of Savannah, Georgia along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His Aunt Jeannie and Uncle Cayley Sharp took a special interest in him and were a great support to him.

Bobby was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  He was a graduate of Dickson County High School, Class of 1992.  From there he attended Austin Peay State University and Nashville Tech. He went on to work at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens for many years. He was a people person and loved his job at Home Depot greeting and directing people, working with HVAC referrals and especially giving the dogs treats. He loved his co-workers and felt valued by his Home Depot family. Bobby had a great sense of humor and a wonderful laugh.  He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone.  These qualities endeared him to co-workers at each position he held.

Bobby loved football, ice hockey and watching ESPN. He loved sports statistics and was Brett Favre’s biggest fan. He loved watching the NFL draft. Need a statistic for a team or athlete?  Just ask Bobby.  He collected different types of sports memorabilia. He enjoyed movies. He would quote lines from his favorites, sometimes at odd times or out of nowhere to gain a laugh.

Bobby valued his friendships.  His lifelong friend, Chuck Dauphin, preceded him in death in 2020 and this was a huge loss for Bobby.  In more recent years, he has reconnected with childhood friends, Jeff Alexander, Blake Chadwick and Will Crow.  He formed a new friendship in recent years with Tim Dunnington.  He also had a friend and mentor in Neil Spence who was a constant encourager for Bobby’s spiritual and family life.

Bobby loved his children most of all. He was dedicated to being a father. He would talk about Brett and Emmy with pride, joy, and hope. Bobby was proud of their academic accomplishments and character.  He wanted to know about their interests and would make a point to learn about their interests.  He loved spending time with them.  Bobby’s love for his children was obvious to anyone who met him.

Bobby leaned on his faith in GOD through difficult times and poor health over the past few years.  His consistent kindness and simple spirit were a gift to everyone he met.

Keep smiling Bobby! You will be missed.
